Gentoo Sailing Team is delighted to announce Kingfisher Yacht Ropes as a technical partner.
Kingfishers Yacht Ropes will be supplying James and the team with some of the best equipment to ensure the boat is as reliable as possible whilst racing and training, ahead of the Défi Azimut Race starting next week.
“Trusting such important equipment like lines and ropes onboard allows us to push the Gentoo as hard as we can. The experience, knowledge and support Nigel and his team brings to our programme is invaluable.” - James Harayda, Skipper of Gentoo Sailing Team
Kingfisher Yacht Ropes was established in 1982 and supplies trade customers with a large variety of products including ropes, loadstraps, twines and slings. Gentoo Sailing Team is excited to welcome another partner who also sees eye-to-eye when it comes to sustainability, having launched ‘Eco-Cycle’, an internal project name for all new improvements on their carbon footprint, ultimately becoming more socially responsible.
Just one example of this was the decision taken to change all Kingfisher Yacht Ropes lines to the new bio-based Dyneema® fibres. Even though the fibre’s feedstock will be transitioned from conventional (fossil fuel) to a renewable source via mass balancing, the performance & specifications will remain unchanged. For every 1 tonne of bio-based Dyneema® purchased, 5 tonnes of CO2 emissions are avoided when compared to standard Dyneema® fibres, a brilliant example of the company's long term environmental commitment.
"We are delighted to be partnering with Gentoo Sailing team, collaborating with one of our highly skilled Grand Prix rigging partners to provide a full rope package. We are looking forward to seeing our lines being challenged in some of the toughest sailing conditions as they, together with James sail around the world.” - Nigel Saddington, DSM Group Partner
